social relationships. The body is the main space for the understanding of the being,

considered as a product that needs to be continually updated. Value is added to it,
sculpting it in gyms, aesthetic clinics, and in operating rooms. However, those bodies
also speak, and the present study intends to listen to them through Freud?s
psychoanalysis in dialogue with the anthropology and sociology areas. The objective
of the study was the investigation of the motivation that defines the body experiences
and subjective implications in women that were submitted to aesthetic surgery. For
this purpose, the expectation, the affections, and the psychological repercussion of
the modified body were identified. The role of the body in the actuality is discussed,
with emphasis in the contemporary body experience, which is enlaced by the culture
of consumption and narcissism. This is a qualitative research, and as such, does not
intend to present statistic generalization. Six women were interviewed using a semistructured
questionnaire. The speeches were organized and discussed through three
categories of analysis: the body and the aesthetic ideal, the look of the other, and
femininity and speech dimension. The body was observed as stage of pleasure,
beauty, satisfaction, but also unsatisfaction, incompleteness and suffering:
incomplete body which turns itself into a battle field searching for perfection and
plenitude. It can be understood from this study that, through aesthetic surgery,
women modify their bodies aiming the ideal image through the others eyes and to
experience the diversity of sensations and body possibilities. This research tries to
contribute to the area of health, stimulating studies and interdisciplinary interventions,
from which its professionals may understand the diversity and demands of the body,
taking into consideration its subjective experiences.
