AND (stigma OR prejudice OR sexism OR discrimination).

Faced with the phenomenon of the increase in the number of divorces and the problem of gender inequality, this dissertation aimed to analyze the sexism directed at divorced women, starting from the perception of the target group. To this end, two studies were carried out, the first being an integrative review of the literature in the Medline, Scielo and Socindex databases, whose data collection considered the interval from 2011 to 2021. The search descriptors with Boolean operators were: divorced AND (stigma OR prejudice OR sexism OR discrimination). Among the 22 selected articles, there was a predominance of studies in Muslim countries. The second study had a qualitative and exploratory character, being carried out with nine divorced, Brazilian, heterosexual women over 18 years old, who answered a sociodemographic questionnaire and participated in an individual interview, in the online modality, conducted through a semi-structured script, which addressed the perception of sexism after divorce. The
results highlighted that the participants conceive divorce as a normative contemporary event in Brazilian culture, with continuity and, at the same time, rupture of sexist beliefs, religious and family values; can be seen as a means for solving marital problems. Women recognize the existence of sexism when referring to the negative perception of divorced women, the existence of social norms prescribed to divorced women, different social treatment for divorced women and men, and violence against women. The contexts in which divorced women experienced situations of sexism were the beach, party, bar, flirting situation, residential condominium, work, app car, son's school, friendship center, family, and social network. According to the participants, sexism is diluted in everyday life and can be expressed by children, men, women, and families. Regarding ways of coping with sexism, the interviewees reported that they used silence or avoidance, others confronted and retaliated, others distanced themselves or behaved
differently, or even pretended to have a husband. The recognition of the existence of sexism and the perception of discrimination by the interviewed divorced women makes it necessary to invest in research on the subject in the national context, which can support actions to combat this form of violence in Brazilian society.
